Shipping Finance Professional

Trevor Law has been involved in shipping finance for over 33 years.  Beginning his shipping finance career with Marine Midland in 1982, Trevor was involved in the Northern European and Scandinavian markets before he moved on to Bank of America and Manufacturers Hanover Bank where he was primarily responsible for the Greek shipping portfolio.  

Trevor has had experience in the shipping community throughout the world and is familiar with many facets of raising finance for ship owners.  Apart from being at the forefront of shipping finance and its development, Trevor has a considerable practical knowledge in arranging and the distribution of syndicated and mezzanine debt for large shipping investment programmes.  In the 1980’s and 1990’s Trevor was actively engaged in shipping workouts having been involved in a number high profile cases.  

During the 1990’s Trevor was involved in providing debt and equity finance for the shipping community.  Much of Trevor’s activities in this time included vessel ownership and operating ships for the companies he represented.  Consequently, he is familiar with some of the difficulties faced by ship owners and experienced in resolving day-to-day issues in shipping.  During the 1990’s, Trevor headed up the shipping portfolio for Banque Paribas based in Geneva with a worldwide remit.

For over 11 years until 2013, Trevor was engaged by DVB Bank - a dedicated transport finance bank - responsible for reviewing the adequacy and sufficiency of the risk assets in all offices throughout the world.  

At present, Trevor advises a number of shipping banks and financial institutions on financial and organisational issues and is a visiting professor and regular lecturer for several organisations, including the World Maritime University, Shanghai Maritime University and is course director of the Anatomy of Shipping Finance course run by Cambridge Academy of Transport.  Trevor has also been a lecturer for METL since its creation in 2002.  In addition, apart from being a frequent presenter at shipping conferences and seminars, Trevor has designed and written a shipping finance distance-learning course for the Cambridge Academy of Transport, where he continues to be the course tutor.  

Trevor is a history graduate and a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
